Manage Unbounce Leads in LeadCentre
LeadCentre works with Unbounce through Unbounce's own webhook integration. Each time someone submits a form on your landing page, popup or sticky bar, Unbounce posts the answers to your LeadCentre webhook URL as JSON. LeadCentre turns the submission into a lead, sends a push notification to your team's phones and gives you buttons to call, text, WhatsApp or email the person, with statuses and follow-ups to see it through.
Via Webhook: The platform posts each lead to your LeadCentre webhook URL.
- A push alert on iPhone or Android for each Unbounce submission, sent to the people you choose on the Team page
- Call, Text, WhatsApp and Email buttons on every lead, opening your own pre-written messages
- Statuses, follow-up reminders and a recorded job value for every Unbounce lead you win
What this does
Unbounce collects the submission and keeps it in its own Leads tab. The webhook sends a copy to LeadCentre at the same moment, and LeadCentre is where your team works it: who's calling, when to try again and what the job was worth.
Why the content type must be JSON
Unbounce's webhook sends a standard form post by default (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). In that format, the visitor's answers are packed into one text field called data.json. Set the webhook's Content-Type to JSON and each answer arrives as its own field, ready to match.
How Unbounce names the fields
In JSON, Unbounce sends every answer as a list, even when there's only one value. LeadCentre flattens lists into numbered names, so your email field arrives as email.0, and a field with the ID full_name arrives as full_name.0. Unbounce also adds its page data to every submission: page_url, page_name, page_uuid, variant, ip_address, date_submitted and time_submitted, as its webhook guide shows.
Keeping the ad or campaign on the lead
Unbounce passes URL parameters on only through hidden fields. Add hidden fields whose IDs match each parameter exactly, such as utm_source, utm_campaign and gclid, as Unbounce explains. The IDs are case-sensitive, and the visitor has to arrive on a URL carrying those parameters.
They arrive as utm_source.0, gclid.0 and so on. Because of the .0 on the end, match each one by hand to its field under Attribution and system fields. They then show under Attribution Details on the lead in the portal. With a GCLID on the lead, LeadCentre sends the lead's progress back to Google, including won jobs and their values.
What happens when someone submits your Unbounce page?
Step 1
A visitor submits your form
On a landing page, popup or sticky bar. Unbounce shows its own confirmation and records the lead in its Leads tab.
Step 2
Unbounce posts it to LeadCentre
The webhook sends the answers and page data as JSON to the key's URL.
Step 3
It becomes a lead
Your saved matching fills in each field, and the key's name becomes the lead's source.
Step 4
Your team is alerted
A push goes to the people switched on for New lead alerts. Any Instant Reply email goes to the person, and an automatic text too with Respond.
Step 5
Someone works the lead
Tap Call or Text, set the status, add a follow-up if there's no answer, and record the job value when it's won.
What you can do with Unbounce leads
On every plan
- Get a push notification on iPhone or Android for each submission, sent to the people switched on for New lead alerts on the Team page.
- Call, Text, WhatsApp or Email from the lead in one tap. Text, WhatsApp and Email open a pre-written message from your templates, with {first_name} and {service} filled in.
- Move the lead through New, Contacted, Quoted, Booked, Won and Lost. Marking it Won asks what the job was worth.
- Set follow-ups with a date and time, and get a reminder when each is due.
- Assign the lead to a team member, who gets an alert.
- Send the person an automatic Instant Reply email, with different wording during and outside business hours.
- Keep the page, variant, UTM tags and GCLID on the lead once they're matched.
With the Respond add-on
- An automatic SMS reply to the person, from your dedicated UK business number.
- Lead Rescue: automated follow-up texts to leads still at New or Contacted who haven't replied.
- Two-way texting with the lead in the app's Messages tab.
The push notification is LeadCentre telling your team about the lead. The Instant Reply email and the Respond text are messages to the person who filled in your form.
How to connect Unbounce to LeadCentre
You'll need a LeadCentre login with the Admin role, and edit access to the page in Unbounce on a plan that includes integrations. Unbounce's Using a Webhook guide covers its side, and the same steps work for popups and sticky bars.
Publish the page before you start, because Unbounce tests webhooks with a submission on the live page.
- 1
Create a key for the page
In LeadCentre, go to Settings > Connections. Under "Add another key", type a name such as Unbounce roof survey and press "Create". The name becomes the lead's source, so name it after the page or campaign. Press "Copy" and keep the URL somewhere safe, as it's only shown once.
- 2
Start listening
Follow "Next: test and match fields" and press "Listen for test data". It lasts 15 minutes, and the page updates itself when your test arrives.
- 3
Add the webhook in Unbounce
Open the page's Page Overview, select the Integrations tab, then the Webhooks tab, and click + Add Webhook. Paste the whole LeadCentre URL, including the part after the question mark.
- 4
Set the content type to JSON
Change the Content-Type from its default, application/x-www-form-urlencoded, to JSON. Under Map Fields, you can remove page data you don't want, such as ip_address, by expanding Unbounce Page Data and leaving its value blank. Click Save Changes.
- 5
Submit a test on the live page
Fill in every field and submit, as empty fields don't appear on the matching screen. In Unbounce's Leads tab, open the lead: Integration Details should show a green check next to your webhook. In LeadCentre, the fields appear under "2. Match the fields" a few seconds later.
- 6
Match the fields
Smart Match suggests what it can, often from the values themselves, since names like email.0 end in a number. Check each row. Match your name, email and phone fields, page_url.0 to Landing page URL, and utm_source.0 and gclid.0 to their tracking fields. Set date_submitted.0, time_submitted.0, ip_address.0 and page_uuid.0 to Do not use. Press "Save field matching".
- 7
Stop listening and check
Press "Stop listening", because a real lead sent while listening counts as test data. Submit one more test on the live page and check it reaches your Leads list and the alert arrives.
What form data can you send?
Your own fields arrive under their Unbounce field IDs with .0 on the end, and Unbounce's page data comes with every submission. The IDs below are examples, so yours may differ.
Unbounce sends no ID for each submission, so leave Unique ID unmatched: page_uuid is the same for every lead from a page. LeadCentre treats exactly the same data sent to the same key within 10 minutes as a repeat, which covers a double click on the submit button. The full list of LeadCentre fields is in the webhook reference.
| Field sent | Usually matched to |
|---|---|
| full_name.0, or your name field's ID | Full name |
| email.0 | |
| phone.0, or your phone field's ID | Phone (mobile or landline) |
| postcode.0 | Postcode |
| A choice field, such as service.0 | Enquiry type |
| message.0 | Enquiry / Message |
| utm_source.0, utm_medium.0, utm_campaign.0 (hidden fields) | UTM source, UTM medium, UTM campaign |
| gclid.0 (hidden field) | GCLID |
| page_url.0 | Landing page URL |
| page_name.0, variant.0 | Custom fields, such as Page and Variant |
| date_submitted.0, time_submitted.0 | Do not use (the lead takes the time it arrived) |
| ip_address.0, page_uuid.0 | Do not use |
Managing Unbounce leads beyond Unbounce's own lead emails
Unbounce has its own lead tools. Its Leads tab keeps every submission, and its Email Notifications integration emails each new lead to the addresses you list. For a confirmation email to the person, Unbounce's guide points you to a third-party tool with an autoresponder.
LeadCentre handles what happens after the submission:
- A push to the phones of the people switched on for New lead alerts, as well as any email.
- Call, Text, WhatsApp and Email buttons on the lead, so the first contact is one tap.
- Statuses from New to Won or Lost, follow-up reminders and a job value on each win.
- An automatic Instant Reply email to the person on every plan, and an automatic text with the Respond add-on.
- One Leads list for your Unbounce pages and your other sources, such as Meta Lead Ads and your website forms.
Keep Unbounce's emails on if they're useful. Both run from the same submission.
A worked example: a roofer's survey page
Say a roofer sends Google Ads traffic to an Unbounce page offering a free roof survey, with variants A and B. The key is called Unbounce roof survey, so that's each lead's source. A hidden gclid field arrives as gclid.0 and is matched to GCLID, and variant.0 goes into a custom field called Variant. A lead comes in at 7pm, the owner's phone gets the alert, and they tap Call. Nobody answers, so they set a follow-up for 9am. When the job is won, they mark it Won and enter what it was worth, and LeadCentre sends that progress back to Google, matched by the click ID.
For agencies managing client enquiries
Each client's Unbounce pages post to that client's own LeadCentre account, because every client account has its own webhook keys. As an Agency Admin, open the client with Manage, create a key under Settings > Connections and paste that URL into the client's Unbounce page. Two clients never share a key, so their leads and field matching stay apart.
- Clients see their own leads in the app and the portal, and nothing from your other clients.
- Alerts reach the client's people. The push goes to the people switched on for New lead alerts on that client's Team page, never to agency staff.
- Permissions stay separate. Agency Users only reach the clients assigned to them. You can untick Connections for a client's own people, so nobody there changes a key you've set up.
- Snapshots save matching the same fields again. Save one client's setup and apply it to the next: the key names and field matching come across, and the new client's keys get their own URLs to copy into its pages.
There's more on agency accounts.
Pricing and requirements
What you need for this connection. Prices for each plan and the Respond add-on are on the pricing page.
- LeadCentre plan
Any plan. Webhook keys are under Settings > Connections, and an Admin creates and matches them.
- Respond add-on
Optional. Adds a dedicated UK business number, automatic SMS replies to new leads, Lead Rescue follow-ups and two-way texting. See Respond.
- Unbounce plan
A plan that includes integrations. Unbounce's plan comparison lists Integrations and tracking on Build and higher plans, so check yours before you start.
- Zapier or Make
Not needed. Unbounce posts straight to your LeadCentre webhook URL.
- Messaging usage
Respond's allowances are monthly. When one runs out, the account is told and can buy credits for extra usage. New Unbounce leads are still saved.
Common problems
The matching screen shows data.json but no name or email
The webhook is still on Unbounce's default form post, which packs the answers into data.json. In Unbounce, click the three dots on the webhook, choose Edit Webhook, set the Content-Type to JSON and save. Submit another test while listening, and set the old data.json and data.xml rows to Do not use.
Unbounce shows an integration error on the webhook
Open Integration Details on the lead to see LeadCentre's answer. A 401 means the URL is incomplete or has been replaced, so paste the full current URL into the webhook. Then use View Details and Resubmit on the Integrations tab to send the failed leads again.
UTM tags or the GCLID are missing from leads
Unbounce passes these on only through hidden fields whose IDs match the parameter exactly, including case, and only when the visitor arrived on a URL carrying them. Check the hidden fields, then match utm_source.0, gclid.0 and the others to their tracking fields by hand and save.
Several submissions became one lead
Check whether page_uuid.0 is matched to Unique ID. It's the same for every submission from the page, so each new one looks like a repeat. Set it to Do not use and save. Exactly the same answers sent twice within 10 minutes also count as one lead, which is what you want for a double click.
Leads from a copied page show the original page's source
Unbounce copies webhooks and their field mapping when you duplicate a page, so the copy posts to the same key. Create a key for the new page and paste its URL into the copy's webhook, or keep one key and match page_name.0 to a custom field.
A real lead didn't arrive after testing
The key was still listening, so it counted as test data, and test data never becomes a lead. Press "Stop listening", then find the person in Unbounce's Leads tab and contact them.
Questions about this connection
Why does the webhook need to be set to JSON?
Unbounce's default form post packs the visitor's answers into a single data.json field. In JSON, each answer arrives as its own field, so you can match name, email and phone to LeadCentre's fields.
Does this work with Unbounce popups and sticky bars?
Yes. Unbounce says the same webhook steps work for popups and sticky bars. Give each its own key if you want it shown as a separate lead source.
Will Unbounce still email me new leads?
Yes, if you use its Email Notifications integration. The webhook is a separate integration, and Unbounce runs both from the same submission.
Can LeadCentre reply to the person who filled in the form?
Yes. Instant Replies sends an automatic email on every plan, with separate wording during and outside business hours. With the Respond add-on, an automatic SMS reply goes out too.
Can I put the key in a header instead of the URL?
Yes. Unbounce can add custom headers to a webhook. Remove ?key= and everything after it from the URL, then under Custom Headers click Add Custom Header, with x-api-key as the header and your key as the value.
Will Google learn which Unbounce leads became customers?
When a GCLID from a hidden field is matched and kept on the lead, LeadCentre sends the lead's progress back to Google, including won jobs and their values, matched by that click ID. Record the job value when you win.
Can I use Zapier with Unbounce instead?
Unbounce has a Zapier integration, and the Zapier guide covers the LeadCentre side. The webhook is simpler, as it posts straight to LeadCentre with no other account in between.
